Peter Pan

Jennifer and I both really wanted to go see Peter Pan in the Pemberton Theatre while it was in town.  Dale and Justin said they would pass on the opportunity, and were really glad they did when we ended up booking tickets on the night of the Super Bowl!! I had no idea when I was looking at the dates that there was a big game that night. 

We found some discounted tickets (my favorite!!) and talked to Mom and she joined us. 

So, Super Bowl Sunday we headed down to Atlanta for some Peter Pan fun.  It was a beautiful day and we got there early so we walked around Centennial Park. There were dogs and people out enjoying the day. Mom had never been to Centennial Park before so she got a grand tour. We walked over to the fountains and had some fun watching the kids and adults play in the fountains.  While it was sunny, it was still WAY too cool to be in wet clothes like some of those kids were. Hopefully, their parents had a change of clothes for them.

 Jennifer was the only one brave enough to run in the water circle as the fountains shot up and down!

This was probably the first official act of Jennifer's birthday celebration.  It was part of her birthday gift, and we were joking at lunch that we should get a Frosty because it was Jennifer's birthday. Actually, Jennifer's birthday wasn't for 9 more days, but we celebrated with Frosties anyway at Wendy's.  As a side note, we tend to celebrate birthdays way longer than they probably should be. :)

Once we walked in the tent, we were not allowed to take any pictures. So, we just enjoyed the show.  It was really an awesome show combining so many different elements.  The theatre wasn't that big, so all the seats were really good, except maybe the bottom two rows.  It is set up like 360 degrees and the actors were coming in from all sides during the whole show.  They used computer generated imagery and a lot of special effects during the show.  There were 12 projectors creating the illusion of a virtual world and a panaramic set that was 3 times the size of an IMAX theater screen. When the kids flew over London, you really felt like you were kind of flying with them. It was really cool, and I have to wonder if this will be the wave of the future- combing live theatre with special effects.

The flying parts are so fun to watch. Sometimes Tinker Bell or Peter Pan would just appear from above. The stage would change quickly from scene to scene and the crocodile and Nanny the dog were huge puppets that moved realistically.

We had a great time watching the show, and I really think Justin would have enjoyed it. There were lots of little kids there, so if you get a chance to see Peter Pan while it is here, I would highly recommend it.  Tinker Bell was a feisty little thing that was fun to watch.  If you are interested, or would like to see a trailer, go to http://www.peterpantheshow.com/venues/atlanta/  And if you would like to go, let me know as I have a free ticket that you may be able to use.
