Sledding videos

The next day I was able to get some video of the kids sledding and snowboarding on the Rubbermaid lids.  They were having so much fun!! And I was too, until I got caught between an out of control sled and the fence. I actually have it on video but I really thought I might have broken my leg.  I had a HUGE bruise and it still hurts and is there 2 1/2 weeks later.

Since it is taking FOREVER to upload the videos, that will be all I will do at this point. Hope you enjoy!

Waffle House walk

Well, like I said -some people were starting to go stir crazy. So, our neighborhood decided to walk to Waffle House on Thursday morning -4 days after the snow! It was the first time out of the house for most people. So, about 26 of us met and walked to Waffle House for breakfast. Once we got the kids corralled, it was pretty fun.

 We are really blessed to have a wonderful fun group of neighbors and we are a pretty tight group.  I just wished there were some boys Justin's age for him to play with!

After the Waffle House, we walked with our next door neighbors to Publix for a few groceries and then walked home.  I remember as a kid walking to the grocery store once in the snow and hope that my kids remember doing this also.

When we got home, Justin found another big piece of snow/ice to show me while Dale tried to dig his car out 4 days after the snow!!

 The second day the kids and I made a snowman. We had to break and remove the ice to get to the snow so he isn't as big as I hoped he would be. We had plenty of snow though. His arms are drum sticks, his nose is a peppermint stick and buttons for his other parts.

 We decided to see how the cats liked the snow.  This is Patches running toward the door.

 Sam is the more curious one. He was willing to investigate a little.

 As you can see, he didn't even break the ice when he walked.

 This is the second or third day. As you can see, it has melted a little bit but not much. We are still above 5 inches.

 This is on the chair on the back deck, so it wasn't accurate but I wanted to see how much was there-right at 8 inches!!

 These are some holes that Justin dug in the snow. They were there for about 4 more days after this. 

I wished I had gotten a picture of us shoveling snow, because we have NEVER had to do that. But, I was amazed at how many neighbors were shoveling their driveways the second day so I did too. Except I don't have a snow shovel ( after all I have lived my whole life in GA-who would need a snow shovel here?!?) so I found my feet easier. I cleared a path for the van to get out just in case we had an emergency and had to leave but I wasn't planning on going anywhere!!

Then we ended up having to shovel Jake a grassy place in the yard to do his business.  And the steps so he could go down to the yard.  When snow is everywhere, he wasn't sure where to "Go" and he didnt' like the ice too much as he would break it when he walked on it.  So, Dale and I cleared him a special area. He is one lucky dog!!

 Here are two of the puzzles that we worked on this week.

They were quite difficult, but we did them!! We actually got 3 puzzles done this week! And don't even ask me about the missing pieces. I have no idea where they are, but I would guess that the dog and/or cats had something to do with it.

Snow-cation 2011

All week the weather people warned us that it was coming, and this time they got it right.  It started snowing about 8 or so on Sunday evening (and they went ahead and cancelled schools) and it snowed hard and fast and we had about 5 inches or so at our house before bed that evening

 The snow was soo soo beautiful but it did have a layer of ice on the top so it was hard to do snow angels and snow balls and snow men.

 Justin had been wanting to have a Nerf war in the snow, so he got his chance.

 Our family got dressed and headed out to the street and started sledding. Dale went down first and tried it out. When it worked for him, we all did it.  Because it was icy on the top, it made a lot of noise and all the neighbors started coming out.

 This is Justin's first of MANY times down the street.

 This is one of our German neighbors and this is the sled they used in Germany.

 IT's not too often that you can just lay in the middle of the road and not worry about cars coming.

 Like I said, there was a layer of ice on the snow. So, here is a big piece that Justin broke off. He actually brought it home and laid it on this thing by the front door.

 And this is what that piece of ice looked like the next day. I'm not sure if it melted a little bit and refroze or if it was just the weight of it that bent it, but I thought that was pretty cool.

 The Parker's joined us as well, and their sled actually had brakes and steering!!

After playing in the snow for several hours, we came in to warm up with some hot cocoa and work on our puzzle.  

The snow ended up staying and staying and staying.  The kids were out of school all week due to the snow and ice.  The temperatures just were not getting above freezing and when they would it would just be enough to melt some and then refreeze at night.  Our Southern city was shut down for most of the week. Luckily, we had stocked up on food and we were eating quite nicely that week. Lots of cookies, chili, soups, etc.  

A lot of people complained about getting cabin fever. But I was just fine. I could have been snowed in another week without a problem at all. I loved every minute of being stuck at home with my family and not being able to go anywhere.
