Doggie swim day!

Jake was able to participate in the first Doggie swim day at the new Cherokee County aquatic center near the house. It was the perfect day for it.  The water felt great and Jennifer and I both wished we could have got in more than we did. 

At first Jake wasn't so sure about it. He doesn't usually jump in until we do and we weren't allowed to swim.  So, he tried several times and just couldn't do it...so Jennifer helped  a bit by pushing him. in.  He swam to the steps and got out. The next time she only had to nudge and after that he was jumping in all by himself many times.  He enjoyed the zero entry depth as well frolicking like a crazy dog and splashing to catch the water.  He enjoyed the other dogs but stayed pretty close to Jennifer and myself like normal. While he likes dogs, he prefers people. :)  So, he would run and play and fetch tennis balls and Frisbees (but not return them!) and then head back to home base.  Then go play again. Our favorite activity was when we stood on separate corners and called him. He would jump in and swim to the other one  and then we would repeat going the other way.  He was so exhausted when we got home. I gave him a bath to get the chemicals off and he just laid in the bathroom floor waiting for me to finish.  I think he thoroughly enjoyed his first time in the pool!!

 

N GA State Fair

I love going to the fair!! It is worth the price of admission just to people watch because you see so many interesting sights and people there! I love when the air has a hint of coolness to it and it is a beautiful night to be there. The last few years, I have had the opportunity to work at the fair on multiple occasions each year so I have been able to get in free, then hang out afterwards for shows, concerts, or whatever.  Sometimes the family comes and sometimes I am by myself, but that is fine too.
I usually work the CERT booth where we talk to people about the CERT program and emergency preparedness-that is always fun getting to hang with CERT friends and meet some new ones. This is the first year in many years that we didn't have a booth (due to restructuring the program) and I really missed it.
The last 4 years I have also worked in the concession stand for PAPA (Pebblebrook's parent program).  I have learned to make french fries as well as work every station except meat cooker (although this year I did have to flip some burgers once) and money handler (that has to be someone on the board).  I always seem to work the really busy shifts so it is non-stop activity from the time I get there until the time I leave.  I worked 2 shifts this Fall and left there and went to see ComPAny 2015 perform their show and then another night I got to see Kenny Rogers in concert.  He did a great job and was very funny.  It didn't dawn on me until after the show that I had probably worked my last shift in the concession stand at the fair.  I had mixed feelings about it. I am sure I will still go to the fair each year, but it will probably only be one time and I may not have the time to do all the walking around that I usually do.

Mamma Mia

I had a great time last week with some of my favorite ladies going to the FOX to see Mamma Mia. Mom, Susan, Carrell, Lynn, and I met at Olive Garden for dinner before going downtown. I did have a major downer during dinner in that I got a call from a very upset Jennifer who had just learned that one of her beloved acting teachers at Pebblebrook had passed away that day. The kids had just found out and they cancelled rehearsal and had to call their parents to get permission to drive home since the kids were all so upset. Mrs. Katie Grant was a wonderful teacher who helped guide SOO many kids over the years and she left behind a husband and 2 young boys after she lost her battle with brain cancer.  I was so sad for the kids and her fellow teachers/best friends and her family.

Once we arrived at the FOX, Carrell wasn't able to walk up the stairs so we were all able to come down to the main level for better seats.  We had great seats after that and all enjoyed the show thoroughly.  They did such a great job with the show!!

Braces are off!!!

Justin has been looking forward to this day for over a year now! He was finally able to get his braces off!  He was so excited to be able to eat the foods that he hasn't been able to eat for almost a year and a half.  He said his teeth felt "So smooth"!  But his smile looked beautiful!!

 
He had been wanting to see a movie that was out called "How to train a Dragon 2" .  He had specifically been waiting until he got his braces off so he could have popcorn while watching the movie. 
 
So we left the office and went to see the movie and got a large bucket of popcorn.  I was amazed at how much money it was for 2 tickets for the matinee and then 2 drinks and large popcorn, but it was a special occasion so we did it. 
 

 We were the only ones in the theatre when it started, but about 5 others came in soon after that.  We had nachos and tacos for dinner.  We also went to the store and bought gum and peanuts.  The next night we had corn on the cob- even though that wasn't something he missed so much. 

First college acceptance letter

Jennifer applied to her first college last month and while we were at the beach last week, she got an email stating that she had been accepted into University of Montevallo. She was super excited and was looking forward to getting the letter and information in the mail. 

She will be applying to more (9 others on the list at this point!) but at least she knows she has already gotten into a school that she really likes.  It's about 3 hours away but an easy drive and would be a good distance for college.  And she would be eligible for lots of aid as well!!

So proud of my smart and beautiful daughter who got accepted into college before she even started her senior year!

Movie work

I was recently invited to participate in a movie film as an extra.  I have always wanted to do this, not to see myself on camera but just to be a part of the process and see how it is done.  When I was a kid, I thought about being a cameraperson and think I would have enjoyed that.  Today, I finally got my opportunity.  It was thrilling...and boring....and thrilling again.  It's one of those hurry up and wait type things.  I had to leave the house at 6:15 am to be at the Carrollton courthouse by 7:30.  I got there right on time, and expected to be in a big crowd of extras. But there weren't very many of us, which was kinda nice because we got to meet each of the actors and interact with them all day long.  There were only 8 of us extras - 4 men and 4 women. 

The movie is a thriller called "Sinking Sand".  I didn't know any of the stars in it but they all have an established movie/film career.  They each came up to us and introduced themselves and shook our hands or high fived us.  They were all very friendly and most of them were very funny as well. I enjoyed my time with them.  The time off set was boring but I enjoyed having some down time and getting some stuff done. I even finished a book I was reading.  Once the extras started talking to each other, everyone opened up and had a better time.  The guy behind me who lives in Carrollton turned out to be a classmate of mine from high school. We were in the same class and graduated together from high school.  Neither one of us remembered the other one though. :)  Two of the ladies were from Pebblebrook and she got excited when I mentioned that my daughter went there as she looks up to her since she is an upperclassman.  One of the actors thought she recognized me. I thought she looked familiar too, but I guess I could have easily seen her on TV or movies before....don't know where she would recognize me from. :)
