Celebrate Freedom

This Labor Day weekend ended up finding us without any plans. We were supposed to go camping with the Koehlers, but we kept putting off getting reservations anywhere and they were all full.  Then we were talking about either going to Celebrate Freedom or going to the lake. We FINALLy decided to go to  Carter's lake but then at the last minute (Friday night) decided to go to Celebrate Freedom. It was a free concert series at Jim R Miller Park where there were a bunch of christian artists performing. 

We went to Justin's soccer scrimmage game on Saturday morning. It was an absolutely beautiful day!!! The first day of cooler temps and fall was in the air. We came home and ate lunch, then headed to Celebrate Freedom.  We met the Koehlers there and went in and walked around to the many booths and mission groups and groups set up.  Jennifer and Brandon did the rock wall. We laughed so hard at an older large lady (she was laughing too!) who was trying to ride the bull but couldn't even get on it. This young man kneeled down on the inflatable part and she was having to step on his back to try to get up there and then she kept slipping off. Justin did all of the inflatables several times.  The kids made a card to send to the soldiers overseas. 

Focus on the Family was there and we got to meet Jim Daly, the president.  I enjoyed meeting him but would have LOVED to have met Dr. Dobson.  We love him!!! We got our picture made for the cover of their magazine. This is a magazine that we get in the mail and it was pretty cool to have our picture on the cover!! Mr. Whit from Adventures in Odyssee was there too, but the kids didn't want their picture made with him. :( 

Cobb County had the swat team vehicle, a police car, and fire truck out there. The kids enjoyed "driving" the vehicles and crawling through them. 

We got to see some of the groups that were singing and we watched Kevin and Taylor do a live broadcast with one of the groups -Seabird.  It was cool to watch them and be so close to them to see all the action.  We saw Point of grace and Echoing angels. They were all signing autographs but we didn't wait in line for that. 

We listened to several groups singing and just had fun hanging out. Unfortunately, everyone was getting hungry and several members of our group wanted to go eat, so we left and went to eat and probably missed the best part of the concerts. We heard Switchfoot was amazing! :(  Next time, I think we need to go later and stay later!!
