Justin has been wanting to learn to play the guitar for several years now. He had a child's acoustic guitar, but hasn't really done too much with it. He wanted to take lessons but our plates were full with other things. So, this year he decided to give us baseball(which has practices and games every night of the week) and CFT and do soccer and guitar lessons.
He really wanted to play the electric guitar. I had told him he needed to learn acoustic first. But after talking to several people, I discovered that that is not true and it is easier to learn electric. Everyone agrees that he is a little on the young side for lessons but that if he has a strong desire to learn, he may do fine. If not, they suggest putting it up for a couple of years until he has the concentration level needed.
So, Friday we went to Ken Stanton music and got Justin the starter kit for an electric guitar, complete with amplifier and everything. He was so excited, even though he understands that this will be his only birthday gift and that it is a month early. He starts his lessons today (and not a minute too soon!).
We unpacked it all and played around with it a little bit. Then Saturday morning, he set up his stage in the foyer and posted a sign that read "Performance 9:30 Happy Birthday Daddy". We all came to the foyer at 9:30 and he played his guitar and sang Happy Birthday. For no lessons, it sounded pretty good. And he was so stinkin' proud of himself. He sang and played and at the end, he didn't sing "and many more". When I asked where that was, Jennifer sang "and many more...next year you'll be 44" which rhymed and we all died laughing, except Dale who took a little offense to getting older.
Here is the proud owner of a new electric guitar!
