10 signs that our kids are growing up

1. When we go to the doctor for a check-up, the doctor talks to them and not me. It is so funny to listen to them communicate with an adult (who is basically a stranger for the most part) answer personal questions about their health and lifestyle. And neither one cried AT ALL-not even an ouch-when they got their shots this year. Normally, one or the other pitches a royal fit.

2. Halloween has been tough this year. Neither kid really wanted to dress up for anything.

3. When we are just running somewhere quick, they want to stay home- by themselves!

4. Jennifer has to learn to walk in 3 inch heels for her part in the play - YIKES!

5. I fixed sandwiches today for lunch and no one requested peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the first time. Everyone wanted turkey sandwiches.

6. We went to a neighbor's birthday party who had hired a magician/entertainer. All of the "little" kids were totally engrossed in it, but our kids stood way back from the crowd with their arms crossed and skeptical looks on their faces.

7. Both kids are flying through chapter books now. Jennifer is even reading "To Kill a Mockingbird".

8. Jennifer has her own cell phone now and enjoys texting her friends. She also has had her first "paid" babysitting job.

9. Both kids are now playing musical instruments, if you count a recorder. We might even have a Christmas concert this year as a family.

And last but not least,

10. The Toys R Us catalog came this week and has been sitting on the table, untouched, for 4 whole days.

It makes me sad, but what can you do?? We have definitely hit the tweenager years for both kids. I will just pray that we can stay in the tweenager years and not rush the teenager years!
On the bright side, we are in a really easy parenting stage. Not that we don't have any issues, but both kids can take care of all of their personal needs and can help around the house. It is easy to leave them while we run a quick errand or I run to the office or have to show a house nearby. I can drop them off at their activities and they can check themselves in and it doesn't bother them if I need to leave. They are still great kids and I am so thankful to have them, even if they are growing up!!
