For Justin's birthday party this year, we decided to do a REAL campout. At the lake! With fishing and worms and a tent! And a boat and waverunner! And a bonfire and s'mores!
Justin was allowed to invite 3 boys to spend the night and chose Brandon, Blake, and Nathan. As the time drew near, it had been raining all week and we weren't sure if we would be rained out. As it turned out, that afternoon it cleared up and we were able to head to the lake after all. We brought the waverunner and jumped in the van. Dad & Sarah were already there getting the boat and fishing gear ready for the boys.
We got there and Dad & Sarah took the boys out for a ride in the boat. They went to see the dam and rode around a little bit. They came back and took turns riding the waverunner and fishing. Luckily, Papa was there to bait all those hooks. We ended up having a fishing contest to see who could catch the most fish. We were even able to see a sunset that night-AMAZING considering the weather we had had all week.
With all the rain in the area, we had decided NOT to bring the tent and just let the boys sleep in the house. As it ended up, we had 11 people and 2 dogs at the house and everyone had a bed to sleep in. It also never rained all night. Dad & Sarah and Sugar slept next door on the screened in porch. Donnie & Cathy & their dog slept on their boat as usual. Dale and all the boys slept in the front room and Jennifer and I slept in the back room.
The boys used all the worms we had and then tried to catch fish with the net. They played horseshoes, looked for frogs and bugs, roasted marshmallows, ate hotdogs, swam in the lake, and rode the waverunner and the boat.
My Dad goes out fishing in the boat at like 7 am every morning with a friend. Dale joined them for the first time. Dad caught a pretty good size bass and brought it back on a line in the water. When Brandon kept fishing but wasn't having much luck, Dad was able to put his big fish on Brandon's hook before he threw it in without him noticing. Brandon felt the fish tug and pulled the "big one" in. He was so excited! And then they started discussing how many points you got for a fish THAT big. :)
Since soccer games were cancelled (due to rain down here!), we were able to stay longer than we had planned. It did start sprinkling around 10 am that morning but the boys just kept swimming, playing, and fishing. It didn't seem to bother them any!
We left around lunchtime and stopped at McDonalds for lunch. I think everyone had a great time and hope Justin had a great Birthday. He sure is a great kid!!!
