My fishing trip with Dad

Earlier this week, I woke up VERY early to go fishing with my Dad. My Dad LOVES to fish, even when the fish aren’t biting. I, on the other hand, don’t mind fishing as long as the fish are biting and I don’t have to bait my own hook or touch the fish to get him off the hook.

Well, Dad has taken Justin out fishing and Owen out a different day and he had been wanting to take Jennifer out one day and myself. He asks me about it every time I see him. So, I finally decided that this would be as good a time as ever to wake up at 4:30. I mean, really….is there ever a good time to wake up at that hour?

So, I got up and met Dad at Lake Allatoona at 5:30 AM. Dad’s new neighbor and his son went with us. The guide’s name is Captain Fred Duncan and he has been a guide on Allatoona for 8 years. He actually gets up at 2:30 each morning to go catch the bait that we use for the day!!

We got out on the lake and went out to the place where they normally have good luck. WE waited and waited. Finally a fish bit on Tim’s pole but he stole the bait and then came over to my pole and stole that bait too. Tim’s son Jack caught the first fish, and it was a good size fish.

We went to several other fishing spots where we had better luck. Tim caught the next one and it was a SUPER sized striper that weighed in about 22-23 pounds. It gave him quite a fight, but he caught it.

Then Dad caught the next one and it was another huge one- a striper weighing in at around 18-19 pounds.

I dn’t had another bite and Dad kept telling the guide that he had to get me a fish before we could call it a day (or a morning in our case!). Finally, I got some action and caught a pretty big fish if you look at it by itself. It probably weighed around 8 lbs. But when you put it up against theirs, it looks pretty small. Jack caught another couple of fish that day too. So, we had 5 that were keepers.

I took some pictures of the sunrise since I don’t get to see too many of those these days (thankfully!) It really was beautiful and very peaceful out there at that time of day. We saw very few other boats the whole time we were there and I was home by 11:00.

Cap’n Fred did fillet our fish for us too and we will be having a fish fry next week. Yum!!
